Christmas Tree at Clarke Quay Mall

First big christmas tree I saw this year. Christmas is coming but the festive mood is not there. Everything is tone down and so quiet. We cant even gather in big group. Maximum five people. Hopefully by year end, this will be increased to eight.

My World Tuesday - Murals in Underpass Tunnel

I was walking in the tunnel and was immediately attracted to the beautiful murals in the tunnel. As I google and found that is part of Singapore turning 50 next year celebration and to beautify most of the tunnels around Singapore. Think is a good idea otherwise is very boring to walk in a dull tunnel.

For more information about the murals you can view the website of Singapore River.com.

The theme of the murals tell the story of the birth of Singapore. From the time Sang Nila Utama witnessed a lion and named the island Singa, to the birth of a bustling trading port, to a celebration of lights, colours and the vibrant city that Singapore has evolved into today.

The drawing of the tiger I think is more likely the animal the prince saw cause wild tigers were more common in old Singapore rather than lions.

Will look out for more murals if I come across any tunnels lol.

River Taxi along Singapore River

I was in Raffles Place vicinity and chanced upon this River Taxi. Instead of taking the taxi on the road from Raffles Place to Central Mall, we decided to take the river taxi. It was a great experience, I knew of this service but kinda of forgot about it till I saw the Kiosk.

It was only S$3 regardless of where you alight. Payment could be in cash or by our EZ Link Card (which we used to take the MRT and/or bus). If the kiosk is empty, it could only mean the staff was away on toilet break, etc, just wait for her to return.

The river taxi dont seem popular so the boat only comes when the staff use the walkie talkie to get the driver to cruise over to our stop, we dont have to wait for a long time cause the boat was nearby.

Was so much fun, there's only two of us in the boat, kinda like we have our own private boat hahaha.

Central Mall was only 3 stops away, the ride was too short, the next time I would like to go to the end of the route to enjoy the nice cruise.

Short video on the beautiful scenery taken from the boat.

You can visit the official website of Singapore River Cruise for more details of the river taxi and their other cruises.

Singapore River-Clarke Quay

This looked like a huge umbrella.

This is Clarke Quay, formerly where all these buildings in the above photos are warehouses. They are now mostly pubs and restaurants. It will be crowded at night especially during the weekends.

All these UFOs looking shelters are outdoor eateries.

Maxwell Food Centre

A typical hawker centre or food centre where many locals and tourists who patronise for their meals.

Maxwell Food Centre is located near Maxwell Road; near Tanjong Pagar Road. It has a long history and it was formerly a wet market during the 1950s for the residents in chinatown. It was then converted to a hawker centre to house hawkers. For more info:click here

I like to eat at this food centre when I am in the chinatown area. There are many nice stalls that sell my favourite food and at a very reasonable price.

The difference between a hawker centre and a food court is that most hawker centre are non air conditioned but with huge fans while food court are found mostly in shopping malls and are air conditioned. But most good food are found in hawker centre and they are reasonably priced.

Bum Boats Singapore

In Old Singapore, bumboats were extensively used for transport purposes along the Singapore River, Rochore and Kallang Rivers, and also along the coast of the mainland and the other nearby islands.
But today, there are few bumboats left. Bumboats are converted as river-taxis ferry passengers mainly tourists along this historic waterway, Singapore River, for unique sightseeing and pleasure rides up and down river. Pickup and disembarkation points are along Boat Quay and Clake Quay.
The bigger bumboats are converted to restaurants. The buildings along Singapore River used to be warehouses but they are now converted to pubs and restaurants.

There are several bridges of different designs along Singapore River. Picture shows Read Bridge.
