Tanjong Pagar Railway Station - Arches

My last post on the railway station. Spotted many arches in and around the station.

The designs on the arches are beautiful but no worry all these will be preserved and wont be demolished.

Skywatch Friday - Tanjong Pagar Railway Station - Train

There are many people on the train platform but majority are just shutterbugs to record a piece of history before the train relocated to Woodlands.

I was lucky to take a photo of the 1 pm train that was leaving towards Malaysia.

Close Up Shots of the railway tracks.

I guess all these tracks will be dismantled and recycled or sold as scraps.

A short video of the train leaving the station towards Malaysia.

My World Tuesday - Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

Last weekend, hubby and me went to Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, not to take the train but to record a piece of history before the railway station is set to be relocated to Woodlands on 1st July 2011.

The Singapore Railway line is the southernmost segment in the West Coast Line of what first began as the Malayan Railway, now known as KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu) Berhad, a Malaysian corporation wholly-owned by the Malaysian Government. The terminus in Singapore is the Tanjong Pagar Station. (Source:Infopedia ). You can read from Infopedia the long history and how the trains run.

After so many disputes and discussions, finally an agreement was made to relocate the train station to Woodlands. A company will be set up by both countries to develop some land parcels in Singapore as part of the agreement to relocate the railway station. You can read more about the agreement in here.

The architectural design of the railway station is very European and said to be influenced by the architect of Finland's Helsinki Station, Eliel Saarinen.

The four statues outside the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station represents the four pillars of Malaysia. They are named Agriculture, Commerce, Transport and Industry; each personification holding symbols unique to their character.

Bukit Panjang - Ten Mile LRT Station

The above photo shows the Ten Mile Junction Shopping Mall. It was closed for renovation.

In few years time it would be linked to the not yet completed Bukit Panjang MRT Station. At present the LRT Station at Ten Mile Junction will closed due to the renovation but I found a video in You Tube showing the LRT station at Ten Mile Junction.

The above video was not taken by me.

My World Tuesday - Bukit Panjang

Been a long time since I visited this central north-western part of Singapore. The last time I came here was about twenty years ago...lol. Singapore is a tiny island but there are so many corners of the island that I have yet to visit.

Much changes in Bukit Panjang since I last visited. Bukit Panjang is just another town in Singapore where it is self contained with amenities for the residents of the town. Bukit means hill in malay and Panjang means long. Bukit Panjang literally means "long hill" which gets its name from the long range of high hills which ends in Bukit Timah to the south. You can read more information of Bukit Panjang from wikipedia.

Residents can shop at the mall in Bukit Panjang instead of travelling far to the heart of the city to shop.

The flats are linked via the Light Rail Trains (LRT). Residents can take the LRT to Bukit Panjang Mall or connect to the MRT Station in Choa Chu Kang to take them down to town. In a few years time, Bukit Panjang will have their own MRT Station which is the downtown line.

This is one of the LRT Station in Bukit Panjang (it is not the same as the MRT you see in Orchard Road, etc). The whole line is about 7.8 km. and has about 14 stations.

Inside one of the station.

A short video showing the LRT coming out of the station.

Circle Line - Stadium Station

Continuing with my exploration of the new Circle Line (extension of the Mass Rapid Transit Transport Sytem), I arrived at Stadium Station. This is the station where I can go to the Singapore National Stadium which I posted yesterday.

I think the architectural design of this station is the best among all the stations but I have yet to visit other stations of the new circle line extension.

As this station is near the future sports hub, there are pictures of footballers plastered on the glass of the station. Very interesting.

From the top of the station, I can view through the other end of the station. It looked like it is very narrow.

The exit/entrance of the station is very spacious.

The station is very empty when I was there. Normally, there is no reason to go there unless you worked there or there's a concert at the nearby Indoor Stadium. Crowds of thousands will be expected on such occasion.
But once the Sports Hub is built, I think it will be crowded again with people going there to watch football matches and also to exercise there.

My World Tuesday-Taking a Bus Ride 1-Train Station

OK, enough of walking for my friends and me. After the long walk from Henderson Waves to Alexandra Arch, my friends and I decided to reward ourselves with a meal...lol. We decided to take a bus ride from Alexandra Road to Shenton Way.

A double decker bus came along, so we boarded it and went to the upper deck. It is so comfortable with the nice air conditioned and clean bus and with mobile TV on both decks, better and cheaper than taking a taxi...lol

Sorry about the darkness in the bus, as I did not want my camera''s flash to disturb some snoozing passengers.

This is the first time that I am taking this bus route and was surprised to see so many beautiful scenery on the way.

I managed to take a photo of the train station when the bus was slowing down and stop. As if the driver knew I wanted to take photo of the station...lol.

Tanjong Pagar railway station also called Keppel Road railway station or Singapore railway station, is a railway terminus owned by Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM), the main railway operator in Malaysia. The land on which the station and the KTM railway tracks in Singapore are situated is held by KTM on a 999-year lease.

There are so many problems with this train station as the train tracks was taking up so much land in Singapore. You might like to read the disputes between Singapore and Malaysia from wikipedia.

Two short videos of the train station and trains. Warning, it might cause you to have a headache cause the video is quite shaky...lol
